Program Description:
Before applying for a scholarship you must have submitted a Study Abroad Program Application.

Washburn University Office of International Programs administers two scholarships through one online scholarship application.  Applicants may apply for ONE of the following scholarships offered through the Office of International Programs.

1. IP (International Programs Scholarship):
Funds provided by the Office of International Programs through generous support of donors including Geneva Seybold.  Available to WU undergraduate and graduate students.  Awards up to $1,000.

2. IE - WTE (International Education Washburn Transformational Experience Scholarship):

Funds provided by Washburn University for students completing the International Education Washburn Transformational Experience.  Available to undergraduate students.  Awards up to $2,000.  Note:  Students are eligible to receive funding for only one WTE program.

The amount of award is recommended based on such factors as cost and length of the program, number of applicants, and available funds.  Additional amount may be awarded based on the strength of the application, which typically includes academic merit, statement of purpose, and recommendations.


The applicant must maintain the following requirements from the time of their program application to the time of the program departure:
  • be a currently enrolled degree-seeking student at WU at the time of applying
  • have completed at least 12 WU hours with a minimum GPA of 2.0 at the time of applying
  • NOT have graduated before the program departs unless the course associated with the program is required for graduation.
    • A student who graduates in May going on a program in June that has no course associated is NOT eligible for scholarship.
    • A student who graduates in May going on a program in June whose course association is not required for graduation is NOT eligible for scholarship.

Financial Aid
In most cases, scholarships, grants and loans you receive to attend Washburn can be applied to your study abroad program.  Visit the WU Financial Aid Office for more information:  Morgan Hall Room 267, 785-670-1079.

Application Procedures
Applicants who have not begun an online Bods Abroad application for a study abroad program will not be eligible for the scholarship.  All applicants program statement of purpose and recommendation letters will be reviewed by the WU OIP Scholarship Committee.  Click the 'Apply Now' button to begin the Scholarship Application process.
