Washburn University Study Abroad
Statement on Program Fees
Why We Charge a Non-Refundable Application FeeApproximately 175 Washburn University students study abroad annually and, although we are a small office, we have major responsibilities for ensuring students have rewarding and safe experiences. We are aware of the variety of study abroad options available to them and understand their needs and wants and what the various programs are able to provide. As a consequence, the staff of the Office of International Programs (OIP) spends considerable time and energy promoting study abroad, working with students to select the most appropriate program, and preparing the students for their experience abroad. In addition, student's applications are processed in our office, and budget information is provided to the Student Financial Aid Office in order that financial aid can be appropriately applied. We work with the WU Business Office to process program payments through the student's WU acount. We also work with the Registrar's Office and other offices across campus to evaluate and award credit transfer from foreign institutions. Credit earned abroad and recorded on transcripts from foreign institutions is evaluated and awarded transfer credit by Washburn University. Finally, the OIP staff are available to handle emergency situations. Our goal is to be fair and reasonable and, to that extent, we research the fees charged by our peer institutions to be sure that our fees are in line with those charged by other institutions.
All Washburn University undergraduate study abroad programs include a comprehensive international health and emergency service plan. The plan is through T.W. Lord Insurance Company. Study abroad students are automatically enrolled. The cost is either included in the non-refundable administrative fee or charged separately depending on the length of the program.
